Many organizations teach that there is an end of the world. The Bible uses the word Armageddon on ONE occasion in scripture but the fact that we all have heard of it shows how widely it has been used. Using the concept of Armageddon is one way that organizations can influence people to their purpose. It seems that some use HELLFIRE and others use ARMAGEDDON. Either way they use frightening concepts.
Do Not Be Mislead…
Religions Use Either Fear of Armageddon or Else Fear of Hell to Control and Frighten
Should we expect some global Armageddon? How is this to be understood?
Revelation 16:14 & 16 Reads
‘They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and perform signs, and they go forth to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty…. And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Armageddon.’
Since all nations of the world cannot be gathered into a single place it is immediately obvious that symbolism is being used here.
Notice who is doing the gathering. It isn’t God. It is demons.
The Bible is clear. The world is not going to end. However Christ is going to return and at that time he will deal judgement on the fallen angels. Satan and the demons have mislead mankind and caused havoc on this planet. They gather the nations to Armageddon as we read above. If they had their way they would see all mankind destroyed at Armageddon. They try to taunt God into destroying all mankind.
The Bible is clear. The world is not going to end. However Christ is going to return and at that time he will deal judgement on the fallen angels.
The expression ‘The War Of The Great Day of God’ is interesting.
Revelation 6: 15-17 Describes this in greater detail.
“and the kings of the earth and the magnates and the generals and the rich and the strong and every slave and freeman hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, 16 and kept saying to the mountains and to the rocks “Fall on us and cover us away from him who sits on the throne and from the lamb’s anger, 17 because the great day of their anger has come, and who can stand?”
Again symbolic language is used. How do we understand these words.
On Christs return in Kingdom power it will be a fearful time. As the scales fall from their eyes and they realize the awesome power of God people will react with fear. They will want to hide. And yet in the very next chapter, in Revelation chapter 7 it does not describe Armageddon. Instead the Bible describes the response of many among mankind.
Honoring God’s relationship with Abraham from whom the nation of Israel comes, it first shows that members of all of the families of the Jews will respond with faith described symbolically as 144,000 and then states clearly that this response is not limited. It describes a great crowd out of all nations of the world. All holding palm branches signifying peace.
Yes, though initially a fearful reaction among many will occur at Christs return, when the situation is understood, many will respond favorably to Christ.
To emphasize the symbolic nature of the number 144,000 the Book of Revelation uses obvious symbolism. Its list of tribes does not correspond with Israel.
Revelation 7:3-8. ‘Do not injure the land nor the sea nor the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.” 4 And I heard the number of the sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel: 5 out of the tribe of Judah twelve thousand sealed, out of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand, out of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand, 6 out of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand, out of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand, out of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand, 7 out of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand, out of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand, out of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand, 8 out of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand, out of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand, out of the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand.’
Notice how many will react at this time as they appreciate the truth about what the demons have been doing and the true nature of the Christ.
Revelation 7:9-17 ‘After this I saw, and there was a great crowd, that no one could count, out of every race and tribe and people and language, standing before the throne and before the lamb, clad in white robes and with palms in their hands, 10 and they cried loudly “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the lamb.” 11 And all the angels stood round about the throne and the aged men and the four creatures, and threw themselves down on their faces before the throne and did reverence to God, 12 saying “Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever; amen.” 13 And one of the aged men answered by saying to me “Who are these that are clad in the white robes, and where did they come from?” 14 Said I to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me “These are the ones who come from the great distress, and who washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb. This is why they are before God’s throne and worship him day and night in his temple, and he who sits on the throne will spread his presence over them; 16 they will hunger no more and thirst no more, nor shall the sun strike upon them, nor any heat, 17 because the lamb in the center of the throne will take care of them and guide them to springs of waters of life: and God will wipe out every tear from their eyes.’
So does anyone get destroyed at Armageddon?
The demons try to taunt God into destroying mankind.
However according to Jude it is the demons who are destroyed.
Jude 6 ‘And the angels that did not keep their original position but forsook their own proper dwelling place he has reserved with eternal bonds under dense darkness for the judgment of the great day.’
How do we know that they are destroyed in this judgement? After the battle the Bible describes an interesting event involving the original fallen angel, Satan.
Revelation 20:1-3 reads ‘And I saw an angel come down out of the sky with the key of the abyss, and a great chain over his arm; 2 and he seized the serpent, the primeval snake, who is the Devil and Satan, and chained him for a thousand years and threw him into the abyss and locked and sealed it over him, that he might no longer mislead the nations until the thousand years are finished: after this he must be released for a short time.’
Yes ONLY SATAN is described here. All of the demons have received their judgement. They are gone!
Will anyone else be included in the destruction? Revelation does describe a war in which some of mankind side with the demons.
The sequence of events is clear.
Initially Revelation describes a world ravaged by poor conditions. Wars, earthquakes, diseases, anger and discontent. Then the nations decide to rid themselves of the influence of religious organizations thinking that this will bring peace. In the confusion that follows Christ returns and His appearance will cause a degree of panic. But then a huge number of people will respond favorably to the Christ.
While the demons want all mankind to die at Armageddon and taunt God by trying to unite man against God, they will find themselves severely disappointed. Yes some will side with them but an amazing GREAT CROWD which only GOD can number will side with Christ.
The root meaning of the word Armageddon is ‘place of decision’ and that is what Armageddon is. It is a situation where a decision is taken; To side with the demons or side with Christ. Many will side with Christ and enjoy a marvelous reward.
The rest will share the fate of the demons apart from Satan who will get to see what man can be under God’s Kingdom at the conclusion of a period of imprisonment.
So no, the world is not going to be destroyed. The planet will survive. And an untold number will survive and see what God’s Kingdom accomplishes.
You could very well be one who benefits from this amazing time.
